“Daily Show” correspondents Ronny Chieng and Michael Costa sounded the alarm on Wednesday night's show about Donald Trump's latest attempt to “scam” his most ardent supporters: a new cryptocurrency venture called World Liberty Financial.
“Donald Trump, the most trusted businessman in the world, is now entering the most trusted business in the world, the cryptocurrency industry,” Qian said, asking Trump, an “expert” on fraud and cryptocurrency, for advice.
Tsien cited past comments by the former president in which he attacked cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin as a “scam” and “baseless.”
Chien looked more closely at the other people behind the operation and found more disturbing: One was a convicted drug dealer who also sold colon cleansing products, and the other was a former pickup artist who founded a company called Date Hotter Girls.
The result was a gory mock infomercial for the venture featuring Costa.
“Cryptocurrency is a complex area of finance and technology that we don't know anything about,” he said, “but what we do know is that you like Trump. Trump likes money. And you're giving Trump money.”
Costa said Republican presidential candidate Trump has fewer than 50 days left until the election.
“I don't have time to answer questions like, 'Is it FDIC insured?'” he says. “Are you kidding me? The only people the FDIC is you guys who are investing cash.”
Costa said he was asked to read key financial disclosure documents.
“This is a scam,” he said. “You are the target.”
