Google will launch its Android Automotive app conversion program in February this year, allowing developers to convert Android apps to car screens.
According to reports Android permissionsthe “Car Ready mobile apps Program'' guides Android developers to make small changes to their apps so that they can be used in vehicles with Google Play Store on the dashboard.
First, Google is specifically looking for streaming entertainment, gaming, and browser apps that need compatibility with x86 processors since many cars don't use Arm chips.
However, you can use the compatibility mode option to make many apps work with Android Automotive without following all the guidelines. Google said at its I/O 2024 developer conference last May that it would create an easier path for approval for in-vehicle apps.
Some Android Automotive vehicles already have a growing number of Google Play Store apps, like the Lincoln Nautilus we reviewed in September. There are games such as angry birdsstreaming apps like Max and Crunchy Roll, and conferencing apps like WebEx, which work similarly to their Android tablet versions.
However, the overall list is still limited, with car-related apps like Waze and A Better Route Planner making up the list. Expect more apps to be introduced to the dashboard in February.
