famous economist tyler cowen suggested Ethereum ETH/USD creator Vitalik Buterin As a candidate for the upcoming Nobel Prize in Economics.
what happened: Cowen proposed this unconventional nomination during a podcast with fellow economists. Alex Tabarrok on tuesday.
He praised Buterin's significant contributions to the financial economics of cryptocurrencies, stressing that his work far exceeds that of other economists.
“Vitalik built a platform, created a currency, and in the process refuted the Mises regression theorem, clearly following in Satoshi (Nakamoto)’s footsteps. But what does it take to win a Nobel Prize? Do I have to?'” Tyler said.
The two economists also praised Buterin's efforts to move the network from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake without disrupting network operations.
“Did you see the video of them in Saudi Arabia changing the tires on their cars while they're driving? That's what Ethereum did. It's unbelievable,” Tabarrok said.
Additionally, Cowen highlighted Buterin's personality, calling him “very polite” and “going to be a great person at the ceremony.” He also acknowledged Buterin's philanthropy.

why is it important: Buterin co-created Ethereum, a network designed to support the development of decentralized apps and financial applications, in December 2013. This is a huge improvement from Ethereum's fairly primitive functionality. Bitcoin BTC/USDthe world's first blockchain project.
As of this writing, Ethereum is the largest chain in terms of total value locked, holding deposits worth over $44 billion. ETH, the native cryptocurrency powering the network, had a market valuation of over $293 billion.
In commemoration of the Sveriges Riksbank Economic Sciences Prize Alfred Nobelcommonly referred to as the Nobel Prize of Economics, is scheduled to be declared on October 14th.
