EF's Ecosystem Funding Initiatives team is proud to announce the launch of the 2025 Academic Grants Round, a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening and expanding the frontiers of Ethereum-related academic research. using dedicated funds, 2 million dollarswe hope to build on the success of previous rounds by supporting innovative research in a variety of areas important to the growth and strengthening of the Ethereum ecosystem.

The scope of this round includes projects in economics and game theory, applied and theoretical cryptography, consensus algorithms, protocol design, networking and P2P technologies, client engineering, security, formal verification, and the humanities. Not limited. We welcome bold ideas and fresh approaches that can meaningfully contribute to the Ethereum community. Who can apply?
This call is open to academic researchers, educators, and thinkers from institutions, universities, research centers, and think tanks with insights and proposals that resonate with Ethereum's vision. We encourage submissions from individuals or teams interested in exploring the possibilities within the Ethereum protocol.
Application essentials
- Proposal deadline: Please submit your proposal by 23:59 on March 16, 2025. Please be sure to submit it. here.
- Project type: The project must produce formal academic research, and the research results must be open access with free and permissive licenses.
- Target audience: Applications are open to individual researchers with academic backgrounds, research centers, universities, think tanks, educators, and other parties interested in Ethereum research.
- Submission format: Proposals must be written in English in PDF format and include a detailed project description, budget, schedule, applicant profile, and links to relevant public works and repositories. here This is a proposal template.
