Google Search has stopped showing price charts for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in search results. Users can continue to access these charts through Google Finance.
Over the weekend, Twitter users noted that charts no longer appeared in search results when searching for the price of Bitcoin. In contrast, stock price searches still produce charts.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment. decryption.
Google's decision sparked a debate about the reasons behind the change. Interestingly, as of this writing, searching for “DOGE” still returns Dogecoin price charts. The ability to view balances for Ethereum Name Service (ENS) addresses is also still functional.
Previously, Google offered charts showing the current rates of major cryptocurrencies, allowing users to check prices without having to go to another platform. With this feature, users can now see real-time or near real-time price charts for Bitcoin in their search results.
Separately, search volume for “Bitcoin” on Google hit a one-year low during the week of October 13-19, 2024, according to Google Trends data. By the end of the week, global interest in the term had dropped to 27. % of this year's peak search volume reported from March 3rd to 9th.
El Salvador was the first country in the world to adopt BTC as a legal tender in 2021, but it did not achieve widespread adoption.
