A popular meme photo of a guy in a club screaming in a girl's ear (about something she doesn't seem interested in) is being auctioned off as an Ethereum NFT by a foundation.
“milk edinburgh” is named after the Milk nightclub in Edinburgh, Scotland. The photo was originally shared on the internet with a watermark of the club's name on it, so the name stuck and has since been widely used as an example of “explaining man” or “mansplaining” .
This photo was originally taken in 2018 by David Wilkinson, who collaborated with a pseudonym. A cheerful DAO member cryptopathy—We are selling original artwork as NFT.
Feisty DAO members were able to obtain Wilkinson and found out that he had actually minted the image as an NFT in 2021, but it had not been sold. Cryptopathy and FeistyDAO offered to host an auction on his behalf for free.
This isn't the first time they've teamed up with meme creators to sell them as NFTs. He helped the Dogwifhat (WIF) meme his coins, dog owners pictured in his auctions, auction off photos of their pets. $4.1 million at a similar auction. Previously, they helped the owner of Kabuso, the dog featured in the logo of Dogecoin (DOGE), the cryptocurrency's first dog-themed meme coin, sell an NFT.
The path told Decryption Their motivation behind all of this is to get more creators into cryptocurrencies and show that NFTs are a profitable way to monetize their creations.
“Many of these creators are being approached by predatory teams who take huge payouts or significantly undercompensate artists, making it seem as if the sector is just as bad or worse than the rest of the art industry. ” he said. “With our model, you can benefit purely from his PR and really show people how easy it is to take control of your work in this way.”
This meme will be up for auction on Monday, April 22nd. foundation 5 a.m. Eastern time. The minimum price for an NFT is 15 ETH, or about $45,000 at the moment.
