Former Ethereum advisor Stephen Nereoff has filed a lawsuit against the US government for $9.6 billion.
Nereyoff is claiming the amount as damages for unsubstantiated accusations and harsh treatment by federal officials from 2019 to 2023.
Nereyov previously brought fraud charges against Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, but in 2019 he filed a Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) lawsuit alleging wrongdoing in the extortion charges against him. measures were taken.
From 2019 to 2023, the US government accused a former Ethereum advisor of involvement in an extortion scheme. The indictment is based on allegations that Nereyov and his associates threatened to destroy the cryptocurrency company unless it met his demands for millions of dollars in Ethereum tokens and cash.
As reported by FOX business journalists Eleanor Terret, the lawsuit is based on allegations that federal agents pursued charges against Nereyov knowing the allegations were baseless. The complaint further alleges that some of these officials resorted to harassment, intimidation, and alleged evidence falsification to press extortion charges.
Mr. Nereyov's legal representatives said the impact on his reputation and business was significant and warranted legal action against federal authorities.
