The bid focuses on implementing frequency, a blockchain protocol that allows users to control data and content.
The proposal aims to change how Tiktok's 170 million US users manage their digital presence.
“The way social media works and the way users manage their own data will change,” Ohanian writes to X.
The move faces an ordinance that sells Tiktok's American operations by early April, following the Biden administration law and subsequent extensions by President Trump's executive order.
Ohanian's group, including “Shark Tank” investor Kevin O'Leary, competes with potential buyers such as Microsoft and Oracle.
“I film Tiktok with viewers and work for the chain, but I have no intermediaries,” Ohanian said, explaining his vision for the platform.
Bytedance has not confirmed its sales plans and McCourt has admitted that there is no clear valuation or asset list.
The technical challenges remain regarding adapting Tiktok's large platform to the blockchain infrastructure.
