Openai CEO Sam Altman today announced that the GPT-4.5 will be released for Plus Tier subscribers next week, describing it as “the first model that feels like talking to thoughtful people.”
GPT-4.5 is ready!

The timing of the launch is limited by GPU availability, and Altman says Openai is “outside of the GPU” due to a surge in growth.
The company plans to add “tens of tens of thousands of GPUs next week” to support the rollout of Plastia.
“This is not the way we want to operate, but it's difficult to fully predict the surge in growth that leads to a GPU shortage,” Altman said in a social media post.
While GPT-4.5 does not “crush the benchmark,” Altman emphasized that it represents “a different kind of intelligence” with unique quality. “There's a magic I've never felt before,” he said.
This release coincides with Openai's previously announced roadmap, positioning GPT-4.5 (internally called Orion) as the company's “not the last chain.”
“This plan involves unifying different models of Openai afterwards under GPT-5, which will integrate multiple technologies and provide tiered access levels with free, Pro subscription,” says Altman.
