By trading volumes, BYBIT, the world's second largest cryptocurrency exchange, offers a massive prize to crack the biggest theft of crypto in history.
The exchange has pledged 10% of the funds recovered (up to $140 million) to cybersecurity experts and blockchain analysts who help track and search stolen assets.
The prize is linked to the recovery of over $1.4 billion in infringing Ethereum.
“Within 24 hours of the event, we were overwhelmed by the support from the best people and organizations in the industry. We don't take it for granted. We are the darkest of the history of cryptography. We shared the moment, and we have proven to be better than the malicious actors,” said Bybit co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou.
He highlighted Bybit's commitment to strengthening security and liquidity while encouraging collaboration across the industry.
So far, Chain investigator Zachxbt has identified the North Korean Lazarus group as the mastermind behind the hack.
- $401,347 equivalent to $11.2 billion
- 90,376 $ STETH $253.16 million worth
- $15,000 worth $44.13 million
- 8,000 $meta worth $23 million
Zachxbt has secured a 50,000 ARKM prize money as he discovered that Bybit's Ethereum (ETH) multi-sig cold wallet was misused during a routine transfer to a warm wallet for exchanges.
The hackers manipulated the signature interface and displayed the correct wallet address while modifying the underlying smart contract logic.
