According to the latest announcement from Core Developers, Ethereum's Pectra upgrades are set to live on Holesky and Sepolia's testnets in February and March.
On February 6, Ethereum (ETH) core developers confirmed that Pectra upgrades will begin on February 24, 2025 at Holesky and March 5, 2025 at Sepolia.
If everything goes well, the highly anticipated network update will be released on Mainnet in April. Previous timeline had a mainnet in March
Tim Beiko, support lead for the Ethereum Core Developer and Ethereum Foundation, shared details about X's timeline. According to him, Holesky is scheduled to fork with Slot 3710976.
“Assuming Sepolia goes smoothly, we'll select the mainnet slot in the ACD call on March 6th,” the developer said.
On March 6, 2025, all Ethereum core developers will meet and finalise their decision regarding the launch of Pectra's mainnet.
Pectra is expected to introduce eight key improvements to the Ethereum Network, bringing wallets and validators as their main focus areas. Most notable suggestions include EIP-7702 and EIP-7251, which aim to improve the security and efficiency of these components.
Announcement of dates for Pectra's Holesky and Sepolia's testnets, as well as the possibility of the mainnet launch, brings Ethereum's first major upgrade closer to its first major upgrade since the Dencun upgrade in March 2024. Dencun was important to significantly reduce the two gas prices.
If Pectra goes live as planned, the next focus will be Fusaka upgrades expected in the fourth quarter.
Eth, a native token for Ethereum Network, has been struggling mostly over the past few months, performing Bitcoin (BTC) and other top altcoins.
There is a lot of negative side pressure in the controversy over the Ethereum Foundation. However, after immersing its $2,100 low, ETH returned to $2,900 as cryptocurrency was sold amid the market's response to tariff news.
Will the future Pectra Testnet and release potential for April provide a catalyst?
