Worldcoin (WLD), a cryptocurrency project that uses eye scanning technology to build an identity network, has rebranded.
in statementexplains why Worldcoin, a project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania, became World Network.
“As the scale of the project grows with the importance of World ID’s proof of human protocol, the name ‘World Coin’ no longer encapsulates the project’s mission: to accelerate all humans.”
In addition to adopting a new name, World also unveiled the latest version of its eye-scanning orb device during an event in San Francisco last week.
The spherical peripheral will be used to scan the eyes and verify the identity of the project's users. People enrolled in the system receive a global ID that they can use to anonymously prove their humanity online.
According to World, the updated version of Orb is equipped with the latest NVIDIA Jetson chipset, which has approximately five times the artificial intelligence (AI) performance of the previous version. The upgraded device comes with a fully removable external SD card and has 30% fewer parts, making it cheaper and faster to build.
“The next-generation Orb, announced at the New World event, provides more advanced technology that allows us to scale human-authenticated World ID proofs faster and more efficiently than before.”
world say Upgrades will make your orb accessible in more locations around the world. The project says human authentication services will be offered in more countries, including Costa Rica, Brazil, Romania, Indonesia, Australia, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
